How to Measure for an E-Collar Strap

There are a few different relevant measurements to consider when selecting the correct size e-collar strap: length, width, and thickness.

E-Collar Strap Adjustable Size Length

Using a flexible tape measure, measure your dog's neck where you want the e-collar to sit. This is typically at the top of the dog's neck, right behind the ears. Measure 3 times to be sure you are getting a consistent measurement.

Once you have your dog's neck size where you want the e-collar to sit, add enough room for the e-collar receiver to your measurement. Most receivers add about 2 inches to the neck measurement, though this does vary by model. If you use a double brick setup, be sure to add enough room for both receivers.

This dog's neck measures 14 inches. For a single receiver setup, adding the 2 inches for the receiver brings the measurement to 16 inches. Therefore, the 14 - 18 inch adjustable size length e-collar strap is a perfect fit for this dog.

What if My Dog is Between the Available Size Ranges?

If your dog is between sizes, or if you just want more room for adjusting, we are happy to customize the range.

When ordering, select the next size up, or the option that includes the largest size you'd like included. In the order notes, let us know how small you'd like the adjustment range to go.

E-Collar Strap Width

Another important measurement to consider is the width of the e-collar strap. They are available in 3/4 inch wide and 1 inch wide.

For example, E-Collar Technologies Micro and Mini Educator both require a 3/4 inch wide strap. The Dogtra 280x also requires a 3/4 inch wide strap. The Dogtra ARC requires a 1 inch wide strap.

Be sure to choose the correct width strap for your particular model receiver.

E-Collar Strap Thickness

Lastly with sizing is the strap thickness. E-collar straps are made with standard biothane, at approximately 0.100 inches thick.

The biothane should easily slide through the side slots of the receiver. The back slot of some receivers have slimmer margins for straps. Since biothane can have slight variations in thickness, this can sometimes make it a bit tricky to get the biothane through the back part of the receiver for those with dexterity challenges. If this is the case, you can run the biothane over, rather than through the back part of the receiver, as long as it is through both of the side slots.

These e-collar straps are not compatible with Garmin collars, as they will not fit standard thickness biothane in any of the slots.

This item is of high quality and craftsmanship. It is as described on the site and I'm very happy with it.
My only wish is that it had been quicker to receive...that's not a knock on the seller. The seller was very upfront that the item would take a while to receive. It's only that my dog was without his e-collar until the new one arrived and that was a little dicey at times, lol! But collars from other sellers didn't look as solid and well-made as this one so this was worth the wait! Thank you!!

I love our custom e-collar strap! It looks so much nicer than our old one. It fits perfectly and the seller was kind enough to answer questions and even send me pictures of the different colors I was considering. It took a little while to arrive, but it was worth it!

Colors and fit were great. However the thickness of the band was off slightly and it took two men to make it slide through the openings on my Garmin sports pro. Portions of the band materials shaved off as they pulled it through. I’m confident I ordered for the correct Garmin so I don’t know what happened. Since there would be no returning the collar, we forced it through and made it work

I truly am obsessed w my e collar strap, I’ve had it for a week or two now and haven’t had any issues! The quality of it is amazing, and the colors are stunning! It cleans super easily, I used dish soap, warm water, and a sponge as that’s what I was told to do by the small business that I get leashes from and my collar looks brand new! Everything is above my expectations and I will definitely be purchasing straps from here anytime I need one for my dog!

I absolutely love this collar! The sage green color is so pretty in person, and the black hardware gives it such a sleek, modern look. The material is soft and flexible, which makes it really comfortable for my dog to wear. One of my favorite features is the quick release — it’s a lifesaver for my long-haired dog since it prevents his hair from getting caught like it does with traditional collars. It can be hard to find accessories that actually fit small breed dogs well, so I really appreciate how perfectly this one fits. Highly recommend!

I’m stunned by the craftsmanship of this collar strap. I usually don’t like Biothane because it is stiff and feels cheap, but this strap is supple, flexible, and comfortable for my 1 yr old Doberman to wear for hours. The traditional buckle gives a perfect and consistent fit, and the cobra allows for quick on/off. The clip mechanism actually feels smoother than other Cobra buckle products I have.
For reference, I use this on a Dogtra 280X. It is a snug & secure fit, so I don’t move it around after I fitted it perfectly.

I know the description said “colors may vary slightly,” but I got the yellow strap hoping it would just be darker than my screen like the other straps I’d gotten before from this seller. Alas, I was mistaken. I selected yellow, and got a neon/safety yellow instead of just a regular yellow. I was looking for a match to replace my dog’s previous collar, but this won’t do for me. The smaller 3/4” cobra buckle also wiggles a bit more than I am comfortable with. I have a 1.5” cobra on another collar that wiggles only a hair and I like it much more. I’m not sure if it’s just the size of it that it’s doing it with, but if this is the case I’d almost rather had just gone with the regular clasp than the cobras.

Ordered the wrong size at first, customer service would NOT exchange or return the item. I was so impressed with what was sent I ordered this one, the size one and its quality is much less than the first one I ordered. Shame. Giant holes compromise the integrity of the biothane and doesn’t feel secure. Also, they are spaced way too far apart for a good fit to size.
